Egg
Money Quilts
QID 1073
Before the 1940's, most eggs were produced on rural farms with small flocks
that scratched their way around the barnyard. The farmer's wife was usually
responsible for caring for her chickens and the money received from the
sale of the eggs was hers. Surely, some fabric was purchased with this
precious fund and from that came the quilt patterns uniquely associated
with the Depression years of the 1930's. During a time of hardship in
America, there were still many things for which to be thankful. Life was
simple, people neighborly, and quilts not only useful but also an extraordinary
expression of imagination. Journey back to the times when milk was 14
cents a quart and bread 9 cents a loaf.
With over a year in planning, testing and writing, Quilt in a Day is delighted
to announce Egg Money Quilts-A 1930's Vintage Sampler. Egg Money Quilts
is not only a collection of twelve vintage quilt block patterns with two
layouts, but also a treasury of extra projects created from the blocks.
Join Eleanor as she guides you through her techniques to re-create the
flavor of the "good old days." The book contains over 200 pages, in full
color, with sample quilts, step by step instructions and illustrations,
yardage and cutting charts, and assistance in fabric selection. Enjoy
a visual quilt show with photographs of a bounty of quilts and projects.
The new book will carry the tones of the era with snippets of life in
American, recipes, and good old-fashioned fun.
Not only will Egg Money Quilts become one of your favorite quilt books;
you will enjoy reading the book just for the pleasure of it. Block patterns
included:
Grandmother's Flower Garden, Road to California, Turkey Tracks, Rosebuds,
Old Maid's Puzzle, Dresden Plate, Double Wedding Ring, Rocky Road to Kansas,
Peony, Friendship, Christian Cross, Garden Walk, Double Ax Head. |

Irish
Chain in a Day Quilt - 2nd Edition
QID 1072
The Irish Chain is one of the most universally known patterns dating to
pre-American Revolutionary War times. While evidence is lacking that this
pattern came from Ireland, it has been suggested that the Irish Chain
pattern may have been inspired by a similar Irish weaving pattern. Whatever
the origin, the Irish Chain is a timeless pattern that continues to delight
quilters today.
The original Irish Chain in a Day was first published in 1986 in a black
and white format. While this book remains a best seller, Eleanor wanted
to update her book and add balance to the quilt.
Irish Chain in a Day contains two complete quilt patterns, The Single
Irish Chain, and the Double Irish Chain. Geared toward the beginner quilter,
the Single Irish Chain is easy and fun to make. It guides a novice step
by step through every phase of starting and finishing the quilt. The Double
Irish Chain is more complex and offers the seasoned quilter a degree of
challenge.
With 112 full color pages, Irish Chain in a Day provides yardage and cutting
charts for six quilt sizes, assistance in color variations with a "paste
up sheet," and border treatments. In addition to detailed written instructions,
illustrations are provided for marking, pinning, quilting and binding
the project. Many sample quilt photos are included to inspire creativity.

Magic
Vine Quilt
QID 1077
Grow a flower garden in beautiful fabrics to grace your bed or wall as
Eleanor Burns presents Magic Vine.
The patterns for Magic Vine originated in the 1930’s in a newspaper quilt
column written by Florence LaGanke Harris. As part of a series, LaGanke
presented one new pattern each week. In addition to the pattern, the reader
was treated to a fictitious story about a quilt group and their leader,
Nancy Page. In the group, they shared stories, and decided on what colors
to use for their flowers.
Twenty-two flowers are appliquéd in rows with twinning vines. It is magical
because of the variety of flowers that grow on the vine. The vine grows
quickly, like the magic vine in Jack and the Beanstalk.
Whimsical flowers and leaves are easily made, using light-weight paper
backed adhesive or the quick turn method using non-woven fusible interfacing.
The outside edges are finished with a variety of techniques: satin stitch,
blanket stitch, blind hem stitch, and hand appliqué.
Give Magic Vine a traditional 1930’s look using reproduction fabrics or
bright and contemporary with vibrant batiks. Enjoy embellishing the flowers
with hand or machine stitches, beads, and crystals.
Eleanor offers assistance on fabric selection and yardage and cutting
charts for all five quilt sizes. Bonus projects are included. The book
is conveniently bound in “wire-o” to lay flat.

Through the Seasons
QID 1075
Eleanor has created a palette of quilt patterns to symbolize the months
of the year.
Autumn is harvest time with cool, crisp air offering welcome relief from
hot summer days. Using Eleanor's easy applique technique, grace your fall
table with "Harvest Tablerunner," a cornucopia of the earth's bounty. Eleanor
uses 5" charm squares to create the "Buckeye Beauty", a scrappy quilt that
is as delightful to make as it is to admire. For traditional flair, the
"Country Lane Quilt" fits the bill. From a 1930's Mountain Mist Batting
pattern, Eleanor adds her special touch to make this quilt extra special.
Winter brings to mind a time of gathering with family and friends to celebrate
the holidays. A season to cozy up to a warm fire and sip cocoa. A season
to take the chill off with a new quilt. What could be better on a cold winter
day than to sit and stitch a traditional "Morning Star Quilt" or a "Lodgepole
Pine Quilt" for festive holiday décor. Fussy cut a lovely motif for the
center of your Morning Star, Eleanor shows you how! Embellish your Lodgepole
Pine Quilt with a scarlet red Cardinal to add flair. For the perfect Victorian
Valentine, Eleanor teaches a paper pieced wall hanging "My Crazy Valentine"
that lends itself to creative embellishment with machine stitchery, laces,
and antique buttons.
Rebirth of barren trees and frozen ground signals that spring is just around
the corner. Flowers abound in buds and new growth. Eleanor presents "Baskets
and Bows" and "Twin Sisters" quilts, perfect patterns to show off lovely
floral fabrics. To complete the season, "Gone Fishing" is a whimsical quilt
that incorporates piecing and easy applique. Just the quilt for that special
little boy.
Summer months deliver warm sunshine and dreams of lazy afternoons. "Summer
Porch" and "Pink Lemonade" quilts fit the bill for pleasurable sewing. "Summer
Porch" is delightful with flowered fabric and crisp lattice and cornerstones.
What hot summer day would be complete without a "Pink Lemonade" quilt to
quench your thirst for a pretty new pattern to stitch. To round out the
season, make a traditional "American Beauty" quilt (also known as New York
Beauty). This once difficult pattern is transformed by Eleanor's clever
techniques using printed non-woven fusible interfacing.
Quilts Through the Seasons offers a whole year of patterns in various skill
levels and quilt sizes. Some patterns are designed to be quick and easy
while others offer a challenge as skills develop.
